This book is about The National Theatre. It tells you about how they make shows like War Horse, One man, two guvnors, Hamlet, Treasure Island and Emil and the Detectives.
I enjoyed this book because it taught me a lot about different aspects of theatre and now I want to go and see some of the shows mentioned in the book.
I really recommend the book. The lighting section is my favourite because the lights do cool things and with the lights you can change quickly from one scene to another.
In each chapter, there is a section called “Tricks of the Trade” which gives you details about the tricks the actors use, such as food and drink, making costumes look old and what actors do to warm up. I really enjoyed reading about them.
If you have an interest in theatre this is the book for you.
If you are a bit squeamish, there might be a few pages that are a bit too graphic and you might want to hide the photos (even though it’s down to make-up and props) but the book is definitely worth reading.
I give it 10/10
