The Creakers
Uncategorised / 10th December 2017

Title: The Creakers Author: Tom Fletcher The adults were missing! What happened to them? One morning, a girl called Lucy woke up to the sound of her mum’s alarm clock, which NEVER went off! She went to her mum’s room to find an empty bed. She looked everywhere for her mum. Her mum was gone! The reason her dad wasn’t there was that he had gone missing a while ago; you’ll find out in the book why and where he is. Lucy went into her garden. She could see lots of children crying for their parents. Lucy was the most responsible child so she tried to take control. First, the children watched the news but there was no news reporter! Next, they went to school but there were no teachers! It was very strange! All the children were very confused but they were also a bit happy because now they could do what they wanted! Some of the things they did were: Crash a car into Lucy’s hedge Put trampolines down the road Get stuck in washing machines Get Play-doh and paint everywhere Get loo paper in every tree This was how Lucy’s first day went but what was going…

Uncategorised / 4th November 2017

Title: Toto the Ninja Cat and the Great Snake Escape Author: Dermot O’Leary Toto and Silver are cats from Puglia, Southern Italy but they now live in London with a new Mamma and Papa. Toto isn’t an ordinary cat; she is a blind, ninja cat! One night, they woke up to a strange sound coming from outside and Toto wanted to explore but Silver was too scared. In the end, Toto managed to persuade Silver to go help investigate. When they got outside they found a strange looking creature eating food from their bin. He told them his name was Catface and he took them on a tour of London. On the tour of London, they went on the Animal Tube, which was another carriage on top of a train for humans. On this tour, they saw lots of famous landmarks like Downing Street and the Tower of London. On their way home, there was a lot of commotion; Brian the snake had escaped from London Zoo! So they set off on an adventure to catch Brian. This is where the story begins…. We really enjoyed this book and we would really like there to be another Toto book. We…

The Dreamsnatcher
Alexander's Top 10 / 14th August 2017

Title: The Dreamsnatcher Author: Abi Elphinstone Review by Daniel: This book is about a girl called Moll, a mysterious person called Skull and Moll’s wild cat Gruff. Moll woke up one night in her camp as she heard drums and rattles and calling. The dream snatch had started… Moll was the most important person in the Ancientwood even though she didn’t know it! One night she was caught by Skull’s henchmen and was locked in a cage because she couldn’t give them dark magic. She tried to escape with a boy called Alfie but they failed on their first attempt but they didn’t give up! They finally managed to successfully escape. What did they do to escape? Did they stop the evil Skull? Skull had an evil secret but what was it? You will have to read the book to find out! I recommend this book to 9+ adventure lovers. This is the first book in the trilogy and I am just reading the second book at the moment. I have had the pleasure of meeting Abi and she was amazing. I found out the inspiration for her books which is top secret! Hopefully you’ll get the chance to meet…

Kid Normal
Uncategorised / 21st July 2017

Title: Kid Normal Author: Greg James and Chris Smith This book is about a boy called Murph and his peculiar school. Murph has a problem; he keeps moving house and has no school to go to at the moment. So, his mum keeps on searching for a new school. One day, on his way home from the shops, Murph’s mum spots a child coming out from an alleyway which leads to a place called “The School”, so his mum runs to get the attention of a man who is also there. Whilst she is talking to him, there is a BIG misunderstanding about “flying” and as a result of this misunderstanding, Murph is allowed to attend this school! Meanwhile, at the school weird things are happening, especially the fact that its top secret and the students there have “capes” otherwise known as superpowers. But what can Murph do without a cape? He can be laughed at and called names, such as Kid Normal! But Murph can still save the day especially as there is an evil supervillain lurking around the corner. Nektar is a wasp-man (a cross between a wasp and a man) and he hates picnics. He’s in need…

Timmy Failure 6 – Cat Stole my Pants
Uncategorised / 25th April 2017

Title: Timmy Failure 6 – Cat Stole my Pants Author: Stephan Pastis This is the sixth book in the series and it’s called the Cat Stole my Pants because when Timmy meets his real dad (not Doorman Dave) he loses his trousers and he blames it on the cat with six toes! These books are about a boy called Timmy Failure who thinks he’s a good detective but he hasn’t solved any mysteries in any of the 6 books, so this shows he is a terrible detective (obviously not like Sherlock Holmes!). In this book, Timmy’s mum and stepdad, Doorman Dave, are on honeymoon on an island called Key West and unfortunately for Timmy, he has to go with them! His stepdad’s nephew, Emilio, is also there. Emilio becomes Timmy’s unpaid intern because Total, Timmy’s obese chicken nugget loving polar bear had swum to Cuba. Emilio has an interesting hobby; he likes to read romance novels in his spare time. A few days into the holiday, Timmy goes fishing with Doorman Dave but Emilio doesn’t go with them due to the fact that he’s a bit “sniffly”, and fishing would make it worse! On the same day, a note falls…

Hilo: The Boy Who Crashed to Earth
Uncategorised / 28th December 2016

Title: Hilo: The Boy Who Crashed to Earth Author: Judd Winick   This comic book is about a boy called Daniel but people call him DJ. One day, when he is in his garden, something falls down from the sky. He approaches it, he realises that it is a boy in silver underpants. DJ looks after the boy, who says his name is Hilo. Hilo can’t remember ANYTHING!! A few days later when Hilo and DJ are playing, they get attacked by a GIANT robot, which may be linked to Hilo’s past and could possibly smash him into smithereens! What happens next?? Does Hilo die? Where does Hilo come from? Does Hilo get his memory back? You will have to read the book to find out! We recommend this book to 6+ comic readers who like superheroes as the book only  has a few words and could be read with a parent. We give it 5*****.

The Christmasaurus
Alexander's Top 10 , Daniel's Top 10 / 17th October 2016

Title: The Christmasaurus Author: Tom Fletcher This book is about a boy called William and his dad, Bob Trundle and a very special Christmas dinosaur. William LOVES dinosaurs – he has dinosaur pyjamas, dinosaur socks, a dinosaur toothbrush, dinosaur wallpaper, two dinosaur posters, a dinosaur lampshade and lots and lots of dinosaur toys. However, all William wants for Christmas is a REAL dinosaur, even though he knows that it is impossible! Meanwhile in the North Pole, something magical is happening… Whilst the elves are mining, they come across a strangely large egg, so they take it to Santa. Santa doesn’t know what it is until Christmas Eve when it hatches! Santa calls it the Christmasaurus ; the Christmasaurus is the last ever living dinosaur. Willipoos’, (the name William’s dad calls him) life is brilliant UNTIL a new girl comes to school. Her name is Brenda Payne. We call her Brenda “Payne by name and pain by nature”. Brenda ruins William’s life until… William meets the Christmasaurus. How does the Christmasaurus get into William’s house? What’s Brenda’s next evil plan? You’ll have to read the book to find out. We give 5* and recommend it to 9+ or younger if reading…
