Stewart Foster

This book is about an unlikely friendship between 2 enemies who have issues that affect their behaviour in good ways and bad ways. However, does this bring them closer together or make them hate each other even more?

Alex has lots of worries because he has OCD. He is also getting bullied by: George, George, Sophie and Dan and their mission is to make Alex’s life a misery. They wait for him at school every day to either steal his shoes or dunk his head down the toilet. No one is Alex’s friend!

Dan’s brother is in prison and it is making Dan angry. So, Dan takes his anger out on Alex as he is vulnerable.

One day Alex is forced by his mum to help Dan (remember Dan is his enemy and is a bully) to build a raft; could things get better?

Does Dan become his friend?
Does Alex stop worrying?
Do they stop bullying Alex?

You will need to read the book to find out!

We really enjoyed this book and we also really enjoyed Stewart Foster’s “The Bubble Boy,” which we have also reviewed on our website.

We recommend this book to 10+ readers. We give it 6/5 stars!

David lived in a rich family who wanted the best for him. They were a bit mean when he got expelled from school and his dad threatened him with a knife! His family was very rich and his dad worked in a bank so they could afford to send him to the top schools but when an advert for a free boarding school comes up, they don’t hesitate to send him there! The school is called Groosham Grange.

Strange things happen at Groosham Grange, such as the Assistant Headteacher keeps fresh blood in his room, the French teacher disappears every full moon and all the students act like zombies!

Does David’s dad forgive him?
Does David survive his experience at Groosham Grange?
Does David make new friends?

Read the book to find out!

I recommend this book to 9+ readers who like a bit of horror, magic and mystery!

Anthony Horowitz is famous for his Alex Rider books but he also writes lots of other fantastic books too. We are a huge Anthony Horowitz fans in our house and one day we hope we will be able to include a signed Anthony Horowitz book on our “signed bookshelf!” We can only hope! 🙂

I give it 5*****.

Paola Peretti

“All children are scared of the dark…” This book is about a girl called Mafalda and her friends Estella and Filippo. Mafalda is no ordinary girl; she is turning blind. She suffers from Stargadt Disease, which is a disease that slowly makes you lose your vision.

Filippo is Mafalda’s boyfriend – even if she doesn’t want to admit it. He has his own problems but he tries to help his friend as much as possible. Estella, Mafalda’s trusted friend, always tells Mafalda to find her “essential things” before she turns blind.

Mafalda’s life isn’t going well and she is becoming blind very quickly. She can see how quickly this is happening by measuring the distance between when she can see the cherry tree and actually reaching it. So, one day she decides she is actually going to live in the cherry tree with her grandma and Cosimo (a fictional character from one of her favourite books). In order to do this, she must find “the essentials” for moving even if she has to steal them from her friends and classmates.

Does Mafalda go blind?

Does she find her “essential things?”

Does Mafalda move to the cherry tree?

Read the book to find out!

We recommend this book to 8+. This story is about friendship, love and accepting your destiny, even when it’s not what you wanted. It’s based on a true story – the author of the book has Stargadt Disease.

We could see this book made into a film!

We give it 5*****.

The Creakers https://www.bookbrothers.co.uk/the-creakers/ https://www.bookbrothers.co.uk/the-creakers/#respond Sun, 10 Dec 2017 11:49:38 +0000 http://www.bisland.co.uk/?p=650 The Creakers Book Cover The Creakers
Tom Fletcher

The adults were missing! What happened to them?

One morning, a girl called Lucy woke up to the sound of her mum’s alarm clock, which NEVER went off! She went to her mum’s room to find an empty bed. She looked everywhere for her mum.

Her mum was gone!

The reason her dad wasn’t there was that he had gone missing a while ago; you’ll find out in the book why and where he is.

Lucy went into her garden. She could see lots of children crying for their parents. Lucy was the most responsible child so she tried to take control.

First, the children watched the news but there was no news reporter! Next, they went to school but there were no teachers! It was very strange! All the children were very confused but they were also a bit happy because now they could do what they wanted!

Some of the things they did were:

  • Crash a car into Lucy’s hedge
  • Put trampolines down the road
  • Get stuck in washing machines
  • Get Play-doh and paint everywhere
  • Get loo paper in every tree

This was how Lucy’s first day went but what was going to happen the next day?!

That night, Lucy wasn’t alone… Something was lurking under her bed and waiting for her to fall asleep. But who or what was it???? A Creaker maybe???

Don’t read this book before bed as it’s highly likely there may be a Creaker watching you too! 🙂

We recommend this book to 9+ as it is a bit scary at times. We give it 11/10.

We were lucky enough to get a signed copy of this book for our signed bookshelf! We need another bookshelf now for all our signed books!

This book is about a boy called Joe, his mum and his best friend Ajay. Joe’s mum was the park warden and one day when Ajay came round for breakfast, some post came through the door saying…  THE PARK WAS CLOSING DOWN!

So when the Prime Minister came to Joe’s town, Joe gave him a piece of his mind as his mum was going to lose her job. However, the press recorded his whole argument and put it on TV and Joe became very famous; soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo famous that the Prime Minister summoned him to Downing Street so he could be Prime Minister. “Little did he know that things would never be normal again.” When something like this happens, you always have someone who wants to take your place and in this case, it was evil Violetta, the Vice Prime Minister.

Will Joe survive as Prime Minister?

Or will Violetta (his nemesis & leader of the Anti-Silliness League) strive for victory?

Will Jenkins (Joe’s secretary and second best friend) betray Joe and turn to the Anti-Silliness League?

Read the book to find out!

I recommend this book to 8+ readers because it has a few difficult words in it.

I give it 5 stars *****

This is the third book in the series. The main character is Failure, Timmy FAILURE! He is a detective but because he knows absolutely nothing he is a very bad detective. Timmy has a case to solve, a case from Angel de Manzana Naranja which is to find…

THE MIRACLE REPORT!

The miracle report was written by Tracy Miracle and had an A+++++ (mainly because her parents had a safari park in Africa so she could collect all her things for the nature report from there. For Timmy’s nature report he is teamed up with his enemy “the beast” A.K.A. Corrina Corrina. Angel is older than Timmy and had to repeat the grade for a second time. He desperately wanted the miracle report to copy as he needed to pass the grade.

Does Angel have to repeat the grade again?

Does Timmy get a good grade?

Is the miracle report found?

Does Timmy become a good detective FINALLY?

You’ll have to read the book to find out!

If you like the Wimpy Kid books I recommend this book to you.

I give the book 10/10 because:

  • It’s funny
  • It’s easy to read
  • The pictures are very good

Please write another one Mr Pastis! 🙂

There was a boy who was told not to go near the chalk pit (the dump) but it was a grey day where you couldn’t go anywhere and you couldn’t do anything but go to the chalk pit. So Barney went to play near the chalk pit. He was told not to go near it because at the edge of the chalk pit the ground crumbles when you stand on it and you fall.

Well, Barney did just that, fell, summersaulted, got tangled up in vines and landed in a pile of moss. He bumped his head so lots of silly things were going on in his brain. After a while he woke up   and thought he had broken his arm, neck or leg. But he hadn’t, he had only got his legs tied up in vines. Then … he heard a voice! A loud deep voice coming from the cave. He was on the floor outside the cave. “Who’s there?” said Barney. A grunt came as a reply, followed by something that sounded like “Stig”. This is the start of their friendship!

Even though his grandma and sister don’t believe him about Stig, he still tries to convince them that he is real.

What is Stig?

If he is something from the past and can they get him back to his own time period?

Read the book and find out! 🙂

I enjoyed the “Extra, Extra Read About It” at the end of the book because it was interesting and full of facts.

I recommend the book to 8+ because it doesn’t have complicated words in it.

I give this ‘OLD’ book 10 stars – **********

If you like the book, youtube the TV series! Also, ask your mums and dads if they have seen the series or read Stig of the Dump. I bet they remember it! 🙂
